VitalSolution Enables Anesthesia Providers to Enjoy Work-Life Balance
Today’s healthcare providers place a high value on work-life balance. In fact, many say they would take a pay cut for better work-life balance. VitalSolution-Anesthesiology provides anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) with flexible scheduling and opportunities for growth that empower them to better handle personal and professional interests.
According to Medscape’s 2023 Physician Lifestyle and Happiness Report, 53% of survey respondents said they would take less pay for a better work-life balance. By comparison, a survey by the National Bureau of Economic Research revealed that only 40% of typical, non-clinical American workers would take a similar reduction in income.
The Medscape survey also found that a significant portion of women feels conflicted about balancing their parental responsibilities with their careers. More specifically, nearly 50% of female respondents said they were “conflicted” or “very conflicted,” compared with just 28% of male respondents.
“In general, healthcare has always had high burnout rates, but since the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re seeing a higher number of physicians who want to reduce work hours or leave the field altogether,” explains John Vazquez, MD, chief medical officer, anesthesia division.
The Benefits of VitalSolution for Anesthesia Providers
As a physician-led organization, VitalSolution understands the challenges anesthesiologists face while providing exceptional, safe anesthetic care to their patients. We offer a unique hybrid of traditional employment models and arm physicians and CRNAs with the support, tools, and resources necessary to meet and overcome these challenges head-on. We provide more than just a position—we provide a lifestyle.
“Our model creates a way for anesthesia providers to stay involved in the workforce longer and for retired providers to re-enter the field on their own terms,” Dr. Vazquez says.
When asked about their happiness outside of work, 58% of the respondents to the Medscape survey said they are “very” or “somewhat happy,” a significant decline from 2019, when 84% of physicians said they were “very” or “somewhat happy” outside of work. Similarly, when asked how happy they are at work, 48% of survey takers said they are “very” or “somewhat happy,” compared with 75% in 2019.
While contracted with VitalSolution, most anesthesiologists work seven days on, followed by seven days off. They are supported by a nationwide network of anesthesia providers that can consult on cases and share best practices.
“Our anesthesiologists have 26 weeks off a year while still earning a very competitive full-time salary,” Dr. Vazquez says. “They have an amazing opportunity to create balance in their lives and become active members of the communities they serve.”
The organization also recognizes the impact CRNAs have on the delivery of safe, personalized anesthesia services.
“CRNAs are an incredibly valuable addition to the anesthesia care team,” says Dr. Vazquez. “Our goal is to create the most efficient care team model for hospitals, and often a combination of CRNAs and physicians are key to this pursuit.”
VitalSolution forges long-term partnerships with hospital clients that benefit everyone involved, including anesthesia providers, who enjoy a longer-term yet flexible assignment, and patients, who benefit from consistency and continuity in places where these services are typically scarce.
